Wales – Land of Legend

Journey Leaders: Cameron and Glenn Broughton

Travel through breathtaking countryside, see stunning coastline and visit memorable Sacred Sites during our incredible 9-day journey to Wales.

Experience ancient dolmens and Cairns, a legendary Abbey, cathedrals, village churches, traditional historic towns, wells, waterfalls and three castles

Wales is majestic and otherworldly – lush green valleys filled with morning mist, craggy mountain peaks reaching through the clouds, sacred sites that span five thousand years and a formidable reputation founded on legends of druids, wizards, dragons and witches. As the last retreat of the inhabitants of ancient Celtic Albion, the Welsh are still connected to the ‘olde ways’. Even today this depth of history and tradition is present in the very fabric of the land.

Journey Leaders

Cameron and Glenn Broughton have been researching and visiting ancient sacred sites for over twenty years. Together they lecture internationally on sacred sites, earth mysteries and crop circles and are the co-founders of Earth Spirit Conferences in the USA.

Born in England, Glenn Broughton discovered his spiritual path via a circuitous route, which included school teaching, founding and running an inner city community arts centre, house renovations and wholesale organic food distribution. Having spent 6 months in the Avebury area researching the earths energies and another 6 months at a meditation retreat, Glenn went on to complete a two year qualification with ICCH (International College of Crystal Healing) and studied spiritual healing for two years with NFSH – National Federation of Spiritual Healers (The Healing Trust) in England.

Cameron qualified as a Massage Therapist at the New England Institute of Muscle Therapy in Cambridge, Massachusetts and studied Shamanism with Naomi Lake, founder of Full Circle. She still practices as a Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner and energy healer and utilizes these skills to lead meditations at the ancient sites to re-connect with our spiritual purpose and with the Earth. Connecting with the Spirit of Place and the ancestors through ceremony, Cameron brings a heart centered approach and passion to the experience.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1, Tues 24 May

Meet our intrepid Journey Leaders, Cameron and Glenn Broughton, at 11 am at London Heathrow Airport and transfer by private minibus to Britain’s smallest city, St Davids of Pembrokeshire, where we will stay for two nights. This charming medieval city is the home of St David’s Cathedral, still in use today, and is a short walk from some of the most stunning coastline in all of Wales. St Davids is Wales’ most westerly  peninsula jutting out into the Celtic Sea. With this quaint city at your doorstep and the stunning Welsh coastline a walk away you will feel as though you’ve stepped through time and arrived in another world .

Meet up with the rest of the group for introductions and orientation before the welcome dinner.

Overnight St Davids of Pembrokeshire hotel a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2, Wed 25 May

We start our journey together by connecting to the spirit of the land through guided meditation on sacred ground, with wonderful views overlooking St. George’s Channel. Our exploration will begin visitng St Non’s holy well and chapel, where according to legend the well first sprang up as Non gave birth to St David. Having seen St David’s humble but beautiful beginnings, we will head into town to visit St David’s Cathedral and view the ruins of the abbey. After lunch at one of the city’s lovely cafes we will visit Carreg Samson, a dolmen set high on a bluff overlooking the Irish Sea, where we will begin to discover Wales´s rich neolithic history. Simply being at these sites is a transformational experience and we are great believers in allowing enough time for you to absorb the atmosphere and energy of sacred sites as well as learning of their history and significance.

Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight at St Davids of Pembrokeshire hotel on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 3, Thurs 26 May

After breakfast, head north stopping en route, at Pentre Ifan dolmen, beneath the  Preseli Hills and the source of the Stonehenge bluestones. Here we will connect to our Neolithic ancestors and the energy of the land.

Continuing our journey,  cross the gorge of the Mynach Falls where the River Mynach drops 300 feet to meet the River Rheido.  Above it, see the amazing triple bridge structure known as the ‘Devil’s Bridge’, a remarkable feat of engineering. We will call at the town of Ysbyty Cynfyn, to visit a Christianized pagan sacred site – the megaliths from a former stone circle can be clearly seen in the churchyard walls.

Check into our hotel within the historic walls of the royal town of Caernarfon for the next three nights.

Overnight at Caernarfon hotel on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.

Day 4, Fri 27 May

Free morning to explore the town and the massively imposing thirteenth century Caernarfon Castlebuilt by King Edward I.

Then we cross the narrow stretch of sea, known as the Menai Strait or ‘Afon Menai‘ to the Isle of Anglesey. This mystical isle was the last stronghold of the ancient Druids, who held the island against the invading Romans. Ancient and sacred monuments are everywhere on this special island and we spend the next day and a half exploring some of them.

At Holy Penmon we will experience the wonderfully calm atmosphere of St Seiriol’s Hermitage with anancient well. Here we’ll learn of the importance and energetic properties of water. We also explore the remains of the Abbey and its associated ancient dovecote

Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight Caernarfon hotel on bed and breakfast basis.

Day 5, Sat 28 May

At Lligwy we first see the cromlech from over 5,000 years ago before we climb a small hill to find the atmospheric ancient settlement of Din Lligwy hiding in a small forest but with spectacular views over the Bay. Back down the hillside we encounter the remains of the Hen Capel Lligwy, a twelfth century church. After lunch we visit the dolmen Bryn Celli Dhu with its astronomical alignments,  its known as the ‘Stonehenge of Wales‘ and is the gem in Anglesey’s crown.

Dinner at the hotel. Overnight at Caernarfon hotel on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.

Day 6, Sun 29 May

Traveling south we visit Abergavenny for lunch and a visit to Abergavenny Castle. This twelfth century castle, now ruins, also houses Abergavenny Museum in the old Keep building. Here we’ll find some wonderful time capsules of times gone by – a Saddler’s Shop, Victorian kitchen and a vintage Grocer’s Shop.

We arrive in Cardiff and our hotel for the next three nights.

Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight Cardiff hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 7, Mon 30 May

Not far from Cardiff we will find the two enormous cromlech chambered tombs of Tinkinswood and St Lythans. We find that people like to ‘hang out’ at these sites. After lunch at a nearby National Trust Garden we head over to the majestic and atmospheric ruins of Tintern Abbey founded by 12th century Cistercian monks. Situated amid the rolling hills of the Wye valley all the walls of the great abbey church are still intact except for a roof and window glass, so its easy to envisage what it was like when Henry VIII shut it down in 1536.

Own arrangements for dinner. Overnight Cardiff hotel on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 8, Tues 31 May

On our final morning we visit Cardiff Castle close by our hotel in the centre of the city. The site dates back to a Roman fort and has long history ever since. We will have a guided tour including some of the lavishly appointed rooms that are still as the local nobility furnished them.

This final afternoon is free time to explore Cardiff city and its many attractions. There is a ‘Doctor Who Experience’, historic docks and great shopping amongst many other things…

Enjoy our Farewell dinner.
